He started The Bartlett Group in 1976 as a Human Resource training and development organization. Janine Smith is a certified training and development professional with over 13 years experience in employee development and engagement, performance consulting, and training design and facilitation.

Janine began her career in the mutual fund industry as part of a corporate university with a focus on designing and facilitating employee development programs. When offered an opportunity to lead a Training & Development effort she transitioned to the insurance brokerage business. Her primary accomplishment was designing and delivering a training curriculum in areas of sales, management and leadership, teambuilding, communication, and more. In addition, she used the IPM System to work one-on-one and with entire management team to improve manager effectiveness in communication, coaching, motivation, conflict resolution, and performance management.

Today, as a professional consultant with the Bartlett Group, Janine uses her expertise to serve clients in the financial, service, and manufacturing industries. She is certified in several programs related specifically to behavioral styles. As a Master Trainer with the Integrated Performance Management (IPM) System, she certifies and coaches clients in effectively applying behavioral concepts to hiring and selection, coaching, motivation, and more. Recently, she agreed to take on a new role with the Bartlett Group as General Manager where she will become more actively involved in managing the overall consulting business.

Janine’s active involvement with the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) in her current roles as the VP of Membership and Special Events Committee Chair, and past role as Programming Committee Chair keeps her current on the latest trends in engagement, performance and development.

With more than a decade of professional Human Resource experience coupled with an Industrial Psychology degree, Burlage brings extensive experience in employee relations, training, recruitment techniques, benefits, and safety issues. Burlage has developed and facilitated customized training programs for harassment prevention, employee development and performance, supervisor/manager training, union avoidance, safety/injury-reduction programs, benefit, and wellness plans. In addition, Burlage has successfully managed the HR aspects of several re-organizations that involved transitioning employees to new positions, development of outplacement programs, position descriptions, and employee communication at all levels. Burlage has also created and revised numerous HR policy and procedures at several major manufacturing organizations.
